Technology is full of new things. Very few of them deserve a place in your life.
That’s the premise behind Tech Bytes, a New York-based publication about the devices, software and peculiar inventions that compete for our attention. We’ll cover the gadgets that make daily life better, the ones that make it stranger, and the companies determined to convince us there’s a difference.
What you’ll find here
Expect hands-on reviews of laptops, audio gear, peripherals and useful little devices; reporting on consumer AI and its consequences; and visits to launches, demonstrations and other places where someone insists the future is about to arrive. We’ll try to distinguish breakthroughs from exceptionally good marketing.
There will be room for surprises, too: unusual cameras, elegant desk tools, delightful failures and technology whose appeal is difficult to explain until you try it.
How we’ll cover it
A review means we’ve actually used the product. A hands-on story means we’ve spent time with it but aren’t pretending that a short demonstration answers every question. News should say what happened, not simply repeat a press release. When a company supplies a loan unit or relevant complimentary access, we’ll say so.
Manufacturers, designers, startups and publicists can send product information and invitations here. Interesting access is welcome. Promises of favorable coverage are not.
We’re beginning with a simple ambition: make technology worth reading about again.
